A Quieter Mower That Never Needs An Oil Change?

MILWAUKEE (February 23, 2016) — Briggs & Stratton^® (NYSE: BGG) has combined two of its most popular innovations, creating one engine that’s up to 60 percent quieter* than comparable models and never needs an oil change**.

Engineers joined Briggs & Stratton’s Quiet Power Technology and the Just Check & Add feature in response to what consumers consistently say they want in lawn mower engines: Reduced noise levels and easier maintenance.

“The beauty of this engine is users get the same great power and performance they expect in a Briggs & Stratton engine, but with revolutionary convenience features,” said Carissa Gingras, marketing director for consumer engines and service at Briggs & Stratton. “To meld these improvements into a single engine was a top priority, given the feedback we received from customers.”

To reduce the decibel level, engineers made changes to the speed governing and fuel systems. This makes the engine quieter without sacrificing performance.

To achieve no oil changes, the Just Check & Add feature uses an automotive style paper air cleaner element with a press-fit design to keep dirt out of the engine. Additionally, the Overhead Valve and its innovative scroll design and cooling package keeps the engine running cooler, reducing oil temperature and slowing the decay and breakdown of the oil.

“This engine also has other great low-maintenance features,” Gingras said, “including a tool-less air filter for easy access and an angled fuel neck two times bigger than its predecessor to make filling up less messy.”
