Briggs & Stratton To Recognize Scholarship Winners In Ceremony At Brewers Game July 30

MILWAUKEE (July 28, 2015) — In support of education and determination to succeed, Briggs & Stratton Corporation Briggs & Stratton (NYSE: BGG) will be presenting three local students with its Higher Horizons scholarships on July 30, 2015, at the 7:10 p.m. Brewers game at Miller Park. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Higher Horizons scholarship program for Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) seniors who have shown academic and personal growth while in need of funding for higher education.

“Now in its 30th year, the Higher Horizons scholarship program demonstrates Briggs & Stratton’s commitment to the community and accelerating student achievement,” said Laura Timm, Vice President of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs at Briggs & Stratton. “We developed a strong relationship with MPS and encourage more students to apply for the Higher Horizons scholarship for years to come.”

Each recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship to put toward their college education and related expenses. According to Timm, the three winners were selected from a pool of their teachers, counselors, and a variety of people who witnessed their academic and personal growth. They also had to submit personal essays detailing future educational goals.

“We are so thankful for all the financial support Briggs & Stratton has afforded our seniors over the years,” said Ophelia King, School Counseling Curriculum Specialist at MPS. “The Higher Horizon scholarship has consistently provided support for students in MPS, lessening the impact of tuition costs. Scholarship support plays a role in helping the next generation of Milwaukee students pursue a post-secondary education.”

The families of the Higher Horizons scholarship winners will also be attending the game versus the rivaled Chicago Cubs and celebrating this accomplishment.

Briggs & Stratton plans to continue to support and recognize the importance of education through the ongoing administration of its Higher Horizons scholarship program. MPS seniors are invited to apply for next year’s application by contacting their local school counselor or administrator for more information.
