MILWAUKEE — (MARCH 1, 2014) — Homeowners asked for a quieter lawnmower, and the engine experts at Briggs & Stratton delivered. Quiet Power Technology (QPT), the latest groundbreaking engine technology from Briggs & Stratton Corporation (NYSE:BGG), will soon change the sound of mowing lawns as we know it.
Briggs & Stratton survey of more than 2,000 lawnmower buyers indicated that noise level was the number one thing they would change about their mower.
“Homeowners want to be able to hear what is going on around them, not disturb their neighbors and protect their hearing,” says Carissa Gingras, marketing director for consumer engines and service at Briggs & Stratton. “This Briggs & Stratton engine addresses their concerns and could ultimately change when the lawn is mowed because noise is no longer an issue.”
By re-engineering the engine, Briggs & Stratton has been able to reduce engine sound by 65 percent with reduced vibration, resulting in a significantly quieter, yet still powerful, lawn mower that will meet consumer needs. QPT is available now on the Craftsman Quiet Lawn at Craftsman.com, Sears.com and at Sears stores in both the U.S. and Canada.
“Changes to the speed governing and fuel system allow the engine to operate at a lower noise level without sacrificing engine performance,” said Mark Hering, Product Engineer, at Briggs & Stratton. “In addition to the engine development, Briggs and Stratton and the OEM’s developed quieter lawnmower blades to further improve the sound quality.”
An additional benefit with the QPT design is the engine does not “bog down” as much as a typical mower. Bogging down gives the impression that the engine is struggling to keep up with the load. When the QPT engine accepts load, it does not slow down as much and gives the user more confidence that the mower is sufficiently powered.
The QPT engine is made in the USA of U.S. and global parts at the Briggs & Stratton Poplar Bluff, Mo. plant. For more information on QPT visit: www.briggsandstratton.com.
