Vertical shaft replacement engine specifications

What are the specifications of your vertical shaft service replacement engines?

Service replacement engine specifications for our vertical shaft models are available by clicking on the drop-down list below. These PDF files provide the measurements of the engine, specification information, and other valuable dimensions, numbers, etc. that will assist you in seeking a replacement engine.

PLEASE NOTE: The engines listed here are meant to fit a wide variety of equipment and may NOT necessarily be the exact engine you have currently on your equipment or the one that you are planning on purchasing.

However, comparing an engine in this catalog to one with a similar horsepower and engine name will provide a general idea of the specification.

The complete Replacement Engine Catalog (MS-5568) is also available for download. This catalog shows all of our service replacement engines and also provides the measurements of the engines, specification information, and other valuable dimensions, numbers, etc. This catalog contains only our most commonly used "multi-purpose" engines.

Please keep in mind that this catalog will not list engine series and their corresponding possible replacements and only provides specifications of the replacement engines currently offer.

Not every engine we manufacture is shown in the replacement catalog, but one of the "service replacement engines" listed may fit your application. Be certain to measure your current engine/equipment and compare these measurements to the specifications listed in the catalog to determine the best replacement for your current engine.

In any case, since we do not sell factory direct, and since we cannot know for certain if any of the above engines will fit without examining the equipment, or of modifications that may be necessary to put the engine into service, I suggest consulting a Briggs & Stratton Authorized Dealer located in your area. This Service Dealer has all the information relating to Briggs & Stratton warranty information, engines, short blocks, parts, prices, service, specifications, etc.

Engine Power Rating Information
The gross power rating for individual gas engine models is labeled in accordance with SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) code J1940 (Small Engine Power & Torque Rating Procedure), and rating performance has been obtained and corrected in accordance with SAE J1995 (Revision 2002-05). Torque values are derived at 3060 RPM; horsepower values are derived at 3600 RPM. Actual gross engine power will be lower and is affected by, among other things, ambient operating conditions and engine-to-engine variability. Given both the wide array of products on which engines are placed and the variety of environmental issues applicable to operating the equipment, the gas engine will not develop the rated gross power when used in a given piece of power equipment (actual "on-site" or net horsepower). This difference is due to a variety of factors including, but not limited to, accessories (air cleaner, exhaust, charging, cooling, carburetor, fuel pump, etc.), application limitations, ambient operating conditions (temperature, humidity, altitude), and engine-to-engine variability. Due to manufacturing and capacity limitations, Briggs & Stratton may substitute an engine of higher rated power for this Series engine.

NOTE: Please read and abide by any applicable Safety Information (PDF) before performing any engine work. Always be sure to read and understand your engine Operator's Manual.
