My 15kw generator shows FC 8. If I remove the 15 amp fuse the gen runs however Imust do this every week. How do I resolve this issue?

Asked by: Bombay
Thank you for your inquiry. An F8 fault code is a transfer switch failure. The fault indicates an open circuit within the switch which can occur at the fuses, contactor coils, limit switches, factory wiring or incorrect dip switch settings. A visual inspection is usually sufficient to find the source, most common is a blown fuse. If a visual inspection is not sufficient to identify the source of failure I would recommend contacting a Home Standby dealer. Here's a dealer locator

Home Generator fails to provide power to home

I have a model 040240 home generator. When the home power is lost the generator starts and runs but does not supply power to the home. The circuit breaker is on, the fuse if fine, and the transfer switch fuses are fine. When home power is regained the generator stop as designed. Any ideas why no power is being supplied?

Generator engine stumbling or missing

I had a 15KW Milbank (B&S) generator Model 040274A installed by a contractor in late December 2012. When it runs under load or during its weekly run, it sound like it is stumbling or missing. The generator fuel line is directly off the meter outlet (outside) and 8 feet underground from the meter (1.5 inches in diameter) and reduced to 3/4 inches for the gas valve, sediment trap and into the flexible fuel hose at the generator with three 90 degreee turns. See pipture. The gas meter is rated at 400/308 CFH at 1/2 inch WC. Downstream from the meter on a different gas leg is a gas hot water heater and furnace both with 1/2 gas lines. The contractor listen to the generator and says that this is how all of them sound that he has installed. Is this normal?

The engine stumbling or missing is not typical. Please have an authorized warranty service dealer come out and take a look and the generator and have them do any repairs that may be needed. You can find an authorized dealer here:

are codes and diag. readout covered in this manual ?

genset displays 73 , will start and run for about 10 to 15 seconds .
Asked by: noway
The fault codes will only go up to 8. The 73 you are seeing is most likely the hours of run time on the generator. As for the troubleshooting guide, it will list the 8 different fault codes and troubleshooting. If the unit is starting then shutting down, check to make sure the fuel supply is adequate. Please contact a service dealer to come out and take a look at the generator. You can find a dealer here:
