Rated 3 out of 5 by from On my second engine I bought my ride mower in 2010. Great power and sturdy machine. 23 months after I purchased it I had to get a brand new engine. This new engine came with only a 6 month warrenty. Used it for just 2 months and followed directions and stored it thru the winter. The following spring after about 20 hours and past the warrenty I had to get a valve job. It's now spring again and it's back in the shop after about 25 hours of use. Backfiring and loss of power. I regularily change filters, plugs, and oil and I use only non ethanol gas. To say the least I am not a happy camper with the 24 hp (1st engine) and it's replacement 27hp.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from EFM make starting easy as no choke to deal with Great engine 30 hp powering K71 Tufftorq and CTX9500 from sears Craftsman. easy maintanance, easy drain oil spout, and ease of access air filter makes routine service DIY friendly only a strap wrench to change the oil filter being required. Site says engine is sears exclusive, yet it is now advertised on the Simplicity Tractor site, which is where the CTX9500 is derived, although without the terrain following deck. Plenty of power for mowing of hilly terrain. Probably would not have bought this mower with a lesser engine. The last few years has seen a big down grade in quality of garden tractors and the engines have also gone this way? I am hopeing that this Professional series from B&S will buck this trend with years of reliable service.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Quality to be determined... I'm on the second of this engine in my Simplicity tractor in two years. The first engine self destructed with the piston heads, basically, disintigrating. The engine was replaced, no charge, by Briggs & Stratton, through my dealer. I'm hoping the new engine fares better than the first.I've always used Briggs & Stratton engines in all of my power equipment with zero quality issues.I'm hoping this was a freak quality issue. We'll see...
