Rated 5 out of 5 by from Year round dependability. Have had this engine for 8 yrs, cuts grass in the summer, plows and tills in the fall and spring, and clears snow in the winter. Has never failed to start and perform in any weather. Can't be more impressed and satisfied with this product. Will always recommend a B&S engine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plenty of power and smooth operation Purchased the unit from Sears August 2013. Use for cemetery maintenance; works with hydrostatic drive for tight spots. Lots of power for the heavier grass.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Thought I was getting a great product to replace a craftsman with a Kohler engine This is the worst piece of equipment ever. I bought it to replace a Craftsman mower with a 17 HP Kohler that I have been using for 10 plus years. This engine is so inferior to the Kohler that I can't begin to compare them. I had to have the engine overhauled soon after the warrenty ran out. One the lobes on the camshaft was not getting oil, it wore out which caused the motor to lose power and miss. This caused one plug to fowl out and made this miss worse. I was mowing my lawn recently and found the throttle control wouldn't shut the engine down to and idle. I ran it that way and now yesterday while cutting my lawn the motor begin rving out of control. Even with the mower running I thought it was going to blowup. It burns oil excessivley, a pint or more every time I use it to cut my lawn. In comparison, the Kohler burns no oil and has twice the power of this overpriced unit. I hope i never have to purchase another mower with a briggs engine, I am so dissappointed in this product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Has lots of power and runs smooth, BUT Bought this tractor to replace my old 12 yr old 17 HP Craftsman 42" cut.The mower is much cheaper made, but the 24 HP B&S is nice.Have had a few problems this year (second year of operation), actually started late last fall, my first year of operation. Intermittent missing, first right side then left side. Finally took the carb off. Found small plastic shavings (could only see them with eye socket magnifier) in two of the jets on the left cylinder (as that was the side missing at the time). Cleaned that out and the machine run great for about 10 minutes and then went into high over revs. Had to pull motor and fund the Governor had destroyed itself. Now looking for parts. 2 hr drive, one way!!And my old 17 HP ran for 12 years without a Hic Up! Then just knocked and stopped, Blown Engine. They don't make things like they use too!!I have always done my own maint. Too far to take it to dealer.
