Briggs & Stratton’s pioneering spirit continues to ensure that it leads the way in engine technology, thanks to its recent innovations as the world’s largest producer of air-cooled petrol engines for outdoor power equipment.

The InStart™ system, a Lithium-ion starting system electric start engine that combines the power of petrol with the reliability of lithium-ion battery starting technology, and Just Check & Add™, another original solution that means less engine maintenance and less messy oil changes – users simply check the oil and add when necessary.

InStart™

The InStart lithium-ion push button system battery pack is the most advanced starting technology available in lawn mowers today.

InStart offers an alternative to the old pull cord, providing quick, easy and reliable starts at the touch of a button. To use, just charge, clip, push the button and mow.

Unlike traditional lead-acid batteries, the InStart lithium battery fully charges in one hour and provides enough power to deliver up to 75 starts – enough for an entire mowing season.

Lasting up to three times longer than traditional mower batteries, the InStart lithium-ion battery pack offers a lightweight alternative to lead-acid battery technology. 

The benefits of InStart technology include:

  • Easy starting – no prime, no choke, no pulling chords, just push the button and mow
  • Petrol powered engine – delivers enhanced power making it ideal for cutting thick grass
  • Longer lasting – lasts three times longer than traditional mower batteries

Just Check & Add™

There are two major reasons a lawnmower’s oil needs to be changed, with Just Check & Add offering a solution to both. Firstly, dirty oil, often caused by debris getting into the oil, causes wear on the engine. Secondly, through the regular running of the engine, the oil heats up, causing it to breakdown and create an unwanted sludge.

Just Check & Add uses an automotive-style paper air cleaner element with a press-fit design to keep dirt out of the engine, and an improved oil fill tube with extended flange to protect the tube from debris during routine oil checks.

 

Additionally, the Overhead Valve and its innovative scroll design and cooling package help the engine run cooler, reducing the oil temperature. Cooler oil means slower decay and breakdown of the oil. The merging of InStart technology with the Just Check & Add feature results in Briggs & Stratton’s most comprehensive engine to date.
