Engine Loses Power Under Load

Why does my engine lose power when I apply a load?

There could be several reasons for this symptom (carbon build-up on head, valves not seating properly, intake manifold air leak, blockage in carburetor, etc.). Your best source of information would be to consult a Briggs & Stratton Authorized Dealer for an engine inspection.

A good source for engine specifications and technical servicing information would be a Briggs & Stratton Repair Manual. The correct Repair Manual for your model engine is often listed in your engine's Illustrated Parts List.

Repair Manuals are available for purchase through our websites section or locally from a Briggs & Stratton Service Dealer.

Your engine's Illustrated Parts List will provide any service part numbers you may require. Engine parts list lookup typically requires the complete Model number and six character Type number (Example: 12H702-0505-E1).

In order to view the correct Illustrated Parts List and determine the part numbers for your specific engine, you will need your engine's complete Model, Type, and Code numbers.
