My Smart-Fill Gas Can expands/contracts under different temperatures. Will it return to normal size/shape?
The expansion and contraction of a properly sealed Smart-Fill Gas Can is normal. As temperatures fluctuate, gas vapor inside the can will expand and contract, causing the sides of the can to either swell or become concave.
Fully venting the Smart-Fill Gas Can before each use will help to reduce the amount of trapped vapor. To vent the can:
- Place the can on a flat, level surface facing away from you.
- Turn the child lock and push the spout down to release built-up pressure.
Alternatively, slowly loosen the can’s screw cap to release built-up pressure. Venting the can will help it return to its normal size and shape.
Make sure to retighten the cap before using the can.
For further information regarding venting and general use, please view the Smart-Fill Gas Can video located in our Briggs & Stratton Smart-Fill Gas Can FAQ.
