High Torque Electric Starters
Is a high torque starter available for my engine?
Depending on engine model, Briggs & Stratton does offer replacement heavy-duty style starter motors.
These starter motors' increased housing length generally provide additional cranking power. To determine if a starter motor with longer housing length is available for your engine, please view your Illustrated Parts List.
Your best source of information regarding this type of modification would be a Briggs & Stratton Authorized Dealer. This dealer can examine your equipment and determine if the addition of a heavy-duty starter is possible, or diagnose the problems with the current starting system (discharged battery, faulty electrical connection, faulty solenoid, etc).
For your convenience, we offer three easy ways to locate your nearest Briggs & Stratton Authorized Dealers:
Use our website's Service Dealer Locator.
Visit www.yellowpages.com and enter "Lawn Mowers" or "Engines-Gasoline" in the Category search field and your Postal Code in the Location search field.
Call the Briggs & Stratton Automated Hotline at (800) 444-7774. This hotline is available 24 hours a day / 7 days a week and features voice recognition technology to assist you in finding the Briggs & Stratton Authorized Dealers in your area. Automated maintenance tips, product information, and FAQs are also offered through voice activated menus.
