Generator Overload Protection
How are generators protected from overload?
All generators feature AC circuit breakers. In the event the unit is overloaded, the circuit breaker will trip. If this happens, the operator needs to correct the overload condition and then reset the circuit breaker.
The circuit breakers mainly protect the unit from large inrushes of current. These thermal breakers must heat up to a certain value to trip; therefore, it is important that the load be within the generator's rating.
