Engine Mounting Pattern

What is the mounting pattern of my engine?

Replacement Engine Catalog PDF - 37.9 MB

This information is available in our Replacement Engine Catalog PDF (MS-5568). This catalog shows all of our service replacement engines and also provides the measurements of the engines, specification information, and other valuable dimensions, numbers, etc. This catalog contains only our most commonly used "multi-purpose" engines.

PLEASE NOTE: The engines listed in this catalog are meant to fit a wide variety of equipment and may NOT necessarily be the exact engine you have currently on your equipment or the one that you are planning on purchasing. However, comparing an engine in this catalog to one with a similar horsepower and engine name will provide a general idea of the specification.

Engine mounting hardware is NOT included with new replacement engines. If replacing an engine on an existing application, reusing the current mounting hardware is recommended. If the engine is to be installed on a new application, self-tapping mounting bolts are generally needed as engine mounting holes are blank. For additional information regarding mounting bolts and torque values, please review our Engine Mounting Hardware PDF.

For a listing of our horizontal shaft replacement engines, please visit our Horizontal Shaft Replacement Engine Specifications FAQ.

For a listing of our vertical shaft replacement engines, please visit our Vertical Shaft Replacement Engine Specifications FAQ.

For specification information on our liquid cooled engines, please visit our B & S Liquid Cooled Specifications FAQ.

In any case, since Briggs & Stratton does not sell engines factory direct, and to ensure that your replacement engine will fit and perform properly with your existing application, please consult a local Briggs & Stratton Authorized Dealer.

For your convenience, we offer three easy ways to locate your nearest Briggs & Stratton Authorized Dealers:

Engines are available for online purchase through Parts Nationwide.

Engine Power Rating Information
The gross power rating for individual gas engine models is labeled in accordance with SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) code J1940 (Small Engine Power & Torque Rating Procedure), and rating performance has been obtained and corrected in accordance with SAE J1995 (Revision 2002-05). Torque values are derived at 2600 RPM; horsepower values are derived at 3600 RPM. Actual gross engine power will be lower and is affected by, among other things, ambient operating conditions and engine-to-engine variability. Given both the wide array of products on which engines are placed and the variety of environmental issues applicable to operating the equipment, the gas engine will not develop the rated gross power when used in a given piece of power equipment (actual "on-site" or net horsepower). This difference is due to a variety of factors including, but not limited to, accessories (air cleaner, exhaust, charging, cooling, carburetor, fuel pump, etc.), application limitations, ambient operating conditions (temperature, humidity, altitude), and engine-to-engine variability. Due to manufacturing and capacity limitations, Briggs & Stratton may substitute an engine of higher rated power for this Series engine.
