Maintenance Minder - Hourmeter (5081WEB) is rated 1.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Maintenance Minder First off, this review is based on the Maintenance Minders I bought aprox 3 yrs ago. They have the same name/design/appearance, so I'm going to guess they are the same product. I purchased these and installed on all of my mowers/generators/pressure washers. Simple double-face tape installation. 1 wire gets placed under a bolt head on the metal engine block (not the plastic housing, needs to be grounded to block somewhere), the red wire gets coiled around the spark plug wire several times. the display is zeros until you start/run your small engine. IT records time I believe in 1/10 of an hour increments. All of the above is the GOOD part. NOW the BAD part. They say there are no batteries. I disagree. The only battery is installed in the unit to activate the display. You CANNOT REPLACE it. The unit is sealed; I've tried to take apart and you will destroy it trying. After aproximately 2 yrs of the display lit 24/7/365 because there is no OFF switch, the units go dark and won't work again and you need to buy another one. AT this price, I can't keep replacing an otherwise working unit just because a simple battery dies and you can't replace it. POOR DESIGN!!! I had 7 on various small engine tools; as the display goes dark, they were removed from the equipment and NOT replaced.

Maintenance Minder

I have purchased (2) of the meters and neither work! There was no reading on the meter in the packaging. When I look at the meters on line the all indicate in initial reading of 0.0! Looks like I have purchased two duds!
Asked by: JTDJ
You are correct, there should be an initial reading of 0.0. Please contact the dealer they were purchased from, they should be able to exchange them for you.

Is there a way to set for 2 cylinders or just double the time shown

I purchased this item for my AC AWS lawn tractor w/2 cylinder engine.
Asked by: Alloislvr
The maintenance minder is turned on by a pulse from the spark plug wire. It will not matter if it is one or two cylinders. It will counts the hours of run time. Once the engine shuts down the minder will shut off.

installation details

PLEASE offer some installation details for this device. What engines does it work with (single or dual cylinder?) What does it connect to? How big or small is this and how is it mounted? Does it require any batteries? What does it display, just accumulated running time, or RPMs too?
Asked by: Merlin
The installation instructions are currently unavailable through the website. However, the instructions do come in the packaging for the maintenance minder. This minder can be used on any 2 and 4 cycle Briggs & Stratton engine. It is roughly 2 3/4" x 1 1/2" x 1/2". It does not require batteries and has an adhesive on the back of the minder for mounting. The display shows the accumulated run time and will flash ever 25 hours. It does not show the RPMs.
