Rated 1 out of 5 by from this engine has design problems Have approx. 400 hrs of well serviced use on this engine. At this point had to replace an entire head due to valve guide pushing out and causing push rods to bend (2 sets). Techs at Briggs and Stratton tried to help but who would have thought that the guides pushed out of the head. Thought it was a freak thing but 20 hrs. later the other head did the same thing. Last one of these engines I will buy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good engine initially, but after two or three years it has issues. I like the engine in my riding mower. However, all at once I lost power and the thing would either go wide open (full throttle) or barely idle.Had to take it to a small engine shop and learned that this type engine has a history of issues with the governor breaking due to poor materials. While the parts are cheap to buy, the engine has to be pulled and dismantled in order to repair it. The whole issue costs a few hundred dollars and the issue occurrs even though the machine has been well serviced. I would gladly recommend this engine without any reservations if it wasn't for the cheap governor which could easily lead to a blown and completely ruined engine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Professional series 30 HP I've had the Sears Simplicity Prestige clone (PGT9500) for 6 months now. the engine is reliable, and fault-free. I have only put 20 hours on it so far, but they have been hard-working hours, with a johnny bucket, digging, plowing, and mowing. I'm impressed with the power of this engine, and the quietness of it as well. Very well done!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2 Yrs without a problem bought this mower with this 24hp engine two years ago. Bought the light weight front end loader accessory as well. Works really well. Lots of power, engine runs great. Need to find a cheaper source for filters. No way a fuel filter should be $10 Sears wants. Air and oil filters too expensive. This is just a matter of finding the right source.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bent Push Rods Mower is about 10 years old with 20hp motor. Engine was running rough and not I determined it was not running on both cylinders. Pulled valve covers and found both intake and exhaust push rods bent on one cyl. Doing a web search I see this is a common issue typically caused by moving exhaust guides. Looks like I need new heads to fix. Anyone know if the design flaw has been fixed on the new service heads?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Engine I have this engine on my Husqvarna MZ6128 Zero Turn mower. I use the mower for much more than just mowing our eleven acres - aerating, detaching, towing a DR road grader. This engine SIPS gas and has never given me trouble in 120 hours of heavy duty use. The Electronic Fuel Management makes for flawless starts no matter the temperature. I could not be happier with this engine.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from bad product with warranty problems used my 27hp 44q777-0136 engine for one cutting and busted a rod!Took it to B&S Certified dealer as requested by B&S.Dealer said it looked as though it may have been machined wrong ,but B&S apparently did not believe the dealer and sent a salesman out(ONE WEEK LATER) to take pictures of engine and send to B&S! Briggs is disputing the Warranty saying it was run low on oil! Now B&S want me to pay for dissassembly and shipping of engine to B&S for further review! If this engine was low on oil, then the full mark is in the wrong place! What a joke! I have e-mailed B&S twice and issue is still not resolved! My next resort will be the Better Business Bureau
