16.00-24.00 Gross Horsepower

Briggs and Stratton Engines present an easy-starting system, ReadyStart®, that makes the choke on riding mowers obsolete. Much like a car, the easy start riding lawn mower turns on with just the use of a key or push button start. Reliability and convenience combined like never before. The powerful Intek™ Series V-Twin riding mower engine delivers superior performance and durability. The Intek incorporates dozens of endurance-driving improvements -- including a Dynamically Balanced Crankshaft for a smoother mow and longer life -- along with the easily maintained lawn mower engine made possible by the Tool-less Air Cleaner Cover.

  • No choke starting. Just turn the key and go. Also available on select Husqvarna Endurance V-Twin engines.

  • Safeguards engines against ethanol damage and maintains fuel stability for up to 3 years.

  • Tool-less Air Cleaner Cover

    Easy access for filter changes

  • Briggs & Stratton OHV Engine Design
    Overhead Valve (OHV) Engine Design

OHV engines run cooler and cleaner for better fuel economy and longer engine life.

    Cooler operation and longer life.

  • More durable. More efficient. More powerful. Mows the lawn and lasts long.

  • Avoid Lawn Mower Engine Damage

Look Before you pump fuel into your lawn mower and help avoid engine damage. Do not use any fuel containing greater than 10 percent ethanol (E10) in the engine on your outdoor power equipment.

  • Lawn Mower Engine Torque

Cubic centimeters (cc) only measure the size of the engine on your lawn mower or outdoor power equipment. Torque measures the power that rotates the blade. Maximize your mowing power.

  • Advanced Debris Lawn Mower Filter
    Advanced Debris Management System

Keeps your engine clean by deflecting most debris like micro grass clippings & lawn debris and filtering the rest.

  • Dura-Bore™ Cast Iron Sleeve

Rated 5 out of 5 by from POWER POWER POWER, ALways starts Great engine. I change the oil in mine at the end of every mowing sseason (November). This engine is attached to my Craftsman riding mower. The only starting problem I have ever had was when the battery died. Never any issues with the engine. Air, fuel and oil filters are a breexe to change. The only drawback to this engine is the design of the oil drain. The valve on the bottom of the crankcase is a little problamatic. A simpler silcock design would be much better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all around power and Easy to maintain. With a Craftsman PYT 9000 lawn tractor and this engine I mow steep mountainside slopes, push several inches of snow up and down hill (w/chains), and haul hundreds of pounds of oak firewood. No oil burned yet for over two years now. Have been using a mixed synthetic blend of oil.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far reliable, durable, economical operation, with easy maintenance. 2005 Troybuilt 42" deck Super Bronco with the 407673 21 hp V Twin.It replaced a 20 year old 32" rear discharge Dynamark 10 hp valve in block Teccumseh & doesn't use much if any more fuel, to mow the same acreage in the mulch mode.So far no problems, starts easy, runs well, reliable, easy to maintain.I use straight 30wt Havoline, Pure One oil filter, non ethanol 87 octane fuel, the specified Briggs panel air filter, with the oiled foam prefilter, cleaned & re-oiled yearly. Oil is checked Before each mowing session & changed yearly, along with the oil filter. Fuel filter is OEM & about ready for changing after 6 years. Spark plugs are OEM & still in good condition, but are removed yearly for inspection & spark gap check.Engine runs clean & so far no oil consumption. With the exception of the oil & oil filter, its still all OEM parts!!!!I use it, but don't abuse it!!!!BTW, I also still have a Craftsman magnesium deck 18" mower with a 1956 Briggs valve in block engine, thats used for trimming. It too gets Havoline & non ethanol fuel. Still has the OEM Briggs oil bath air filter!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Intek V-Twin I have a 18.5hp Intek V-Twin in a Craftsman tractor. I believe it's 11years old now. I have had no problems with this engine, not even any carburetor issues. I use it for mowing and snow removal and I run Mobil 1 in it for easy year round starting. .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from John Deere L118 Riding Mower In 2005, I purchase a new John Deere L118 Riding Mower with a Briggs & Stratton 22 HP V-Twin engine. It was a great mower but I always had trouble with the engine starting. I replaced spark plugs, starter, etc. but nothing helped. I finely sold the L118 mower in 2011 and replaced with new John Deere L130 with a Briggs & Stratton 22 HP V-Twin engine. This engine starts instantly. Great engine.
