Engine Valve Clearance

What is the valve clearance for my engine?

The valve clearance would depend on the Model, Type, and Code of your engine and may be different for the intake and exhaust valve.

Your Operator's Manual states the valve clearance specifications. You can also find this and other common specs for our popular engine models in our Engine Specifications Chart (PDF).


If you wish to perform any required maintenance/repairs yourself, a good source for engine specifications and technical servicing information would be a Briggs & Stratton Repair Manual (Look up Repair Manual by Model Number PDF). The correct Repair Manual for your model engine is often listed in your engine's Illustrated Parts List.
