Carburetor Choke Operation
How does the carburetor's choke operate?
When the choke is applied on an engine, it closes a plate inside the carburetor, creating a difference of pressure. This pressure disparity causes fuel to be forced into the carburetor, allowing for easier starting of the engine. Once the engine has been started and warmed to operating temperature, it should not be necessary to apply the choke due to sufficient pressure created by the engine to keep the fuel flowing properly.
