We have been receiving a lot of interest in the Briggs & Stratton slide restrictor system so we wanted to better highlight this program. Current flat plate restrictors create performance issues and are subject to manipulation by their very nature. Plate restrictors cause air turbulence, rich and lean conditions from fuel pooling and inconsistent metering. These shortfalls lead to exotic setups, add unnecessary cost to racers, and complicate carburetor setup.
With the carburetor slide restriction system the original calibration is not affected. The best way to highlight this fact, the novice restrictor (555728) will restrict the engine to approximately 3.1 horsepower without the need to change out the stock jetting. This simplifies a racer’s approach and gives clubs a low-cost way to create a ladder system with just the change of a slide. Simply drop the slide in the carburetor, turn the cap until the slide locks against a setting gauge, and tighten the locking cap (555726). To validate this setting, a tech official can use a simple no-go tool that checks both the front and back lip of the slide without having to take the carburetor off.
This video showcases how this system works from setting to checking.
This sheet highlights the current slide restrictors available, recommended setting tools, a sample ladder system tracks can use, and the approx. horsepower output for each slide.
