Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship Ready to Invade Shannonville Motorsport Park for Annual Bear Hunt

21 Classes scheduled to take part in Canadian Grand National Bear Hunt races

July 23, 2012 – Sutton, ON, Coming off a very successful event at Point Pelee Karting in Leamington last weekend, the Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship Series quickly turns around for round four of the series. From August 1-5, BSRKC competitors will fill the grandstand parking and paddock areas of Shannonville Motorsport Park for the annual Canadian Grand National Bear Hunt races.

21 classes will do battle through the three days of official competition, with two official practice days scheduled prior, starting on Wednesday, August 1. This year’s event is generously sponsored by CF Groups & Cole Cacciavillani, Briggs and Stratton & David Klaus, K.D.M. Racing & Kelly Michaud, and 401 Dixie Nissan/Infiniti & Peter Geer.

The annual Bear Hunt races at SMP have become must attend events for all karters in the Ontario and Quebec regions. Adding the renowned ‘Bear’ to any driver’s collection affords them instant credibility. The event is known to showcase the best kart racing of the year, with Shannonville’s long winding track creating a Talladega type shootout making teamwork and strategy very important for placing any driver at the top of the podium. 

The winner in each of the 21 classes will receive a prestigious Bear, while second and third placed drivers will receive cup trophies. For each official BSRKC class with ten or more entries, the series will pay $175.00 to first place, $75.00 to second place, and $50.00 to third place. All competing drivers will be entered to win the daily draw prizes. The entry fee is $85.00 per class. 

New for 2012, the BSRKC has added a Briggs & Stratton Senior class in the Friday schedule thanks to the support of Briggs & Stratton Canada and K.D.M. Racing. If the class reaches 20 entries, Briggs & Stratton will give back $45.00 of the driver’s registration fee to each driver. SH Karting has donated a set of Bridgestone tires, while SRA Karting has donated a $125.00 gift certificate. Both of these prizes will be drawn at trophy presentations. Kelly Michaud will complete post-race technical inspections for this class. 

Teams and drivers will start to move in on Monday, July 30. Official practice begins on Wednesday, August 1, and runs through Thursday, August 2. An official practice schedule has been posted on the BSRKC.com website.
