Beginning in 2011, you’ll be able to hear the unmistakable thunder of the Briggs & Stratton Animal engine at Midwest Sprint Series (MWSS) once events again. Thanks to a recently completed sponsorship agreement between MWSS and Briggs & Stratton, the 2011 MWSS campaign will feature three classes powered by the Briggs Animal engine package. These classes will be geared toward giving club level 4-cycle racers a chance to meet the challenges of a traveling race environment, yet provide a level of support that eases the financial burden that the higher competition and travel schedule brings. To that end, Briggs & Stratton will sponsor each entrant in the three classes by paying half their entry fee.
Briggs & Stratton’s Dave Klaus, said, “We at Briggs & Stratton recognize that in these economic times, a traveling race series can put an extra financial strain on the racer, but we feel that having a strong Midwestern regional program is worth the investment for us, and MWSS seemed like the perfect vehicle to help make that possible.” Speaking on behalf of MWSS, Tim Koyen said, “MWSS used to have a strong Animal and Flathead program, but with WKA’s Gold Cup series focusing more on the East Coast, it has left Club racers in the Midwest without a place to take the next step. With Briggs’ help, we’re going to provide these racers with a place to show what they are made of and continue to hone their skills. Nothing would make us happier than to help bring 4 cycle sprint racing back to the level it once was.
MWSS will run a Sportsman, Junior, and Senior level class as part of its regular Saturday program. The specific rules package details are being worked out right now, but the classes will use the Bridgestone YDS club tire, which will last an entire season, to help make the program more affordable. As more information becomes available, it will be posted on the Series website, http://www.midwestsprint.com.
