Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college or university studying toward a Bachelors degree in MIS or Computer Science, Technical Writer, or related field.
  • Must have and maintain a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0/4.0

Hours/Schedule

Information Technology intern students work full-time summers only. There is the potential of working additional hours during the fall semester.

The Information Technology Department at Briggs & Stratton is divided into four areas:

  • Infrastructure Solutions
  • Customer Solutions
  • Process Solutions
  • Information Solutions

The following is a summary of each of the four areas as well as potential positions for students. Each year multiple student positions are available. The workload and upcoming projects will be evaluated to determine which of the student positions will be filled each semester.

Infrastructure Solutions is responsible for the physical and system software components of the computer networks and phone systems within Briggs & Stratton, including all of the PC’s and phones, wiring and network hardware, servers, security administration, business recovery, system performance, backups, archiving, and recoveries.

The Records and Information Center (RIC) also falls under the Infrastructure Solutions area. The RIC is responsible for the management of the Briggs & Stratton’s records from creation to destruction. FileNet is the document management system used at Briggs & Stratton and is managed by the RIC.

Customer Solutions manages all electronic communications with Briggs & Stratton’s business partners, consumer, and dealers. This group manages SAP and web development. In addition, this group also supports EDI, Power/Dealer Portal, web-based projects, and category management.

Potential Student Positions:

  • SAP (ABAP-Advanced Business Application Programming) Development Intern
  • .Net Development Intern
  • Dealer Support Intern
  • EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) / Category Management Intern

Process Solutions manages and supports implementations, upgrades, and new functionality of our business systems. This function supports the user community and serves as the liaison between the IT department and the user community.

Potential Student Positions:

  • Technical Writing Intern (Transforming technical, information to end user documentation.)
  • Technical Writing Intern (Documenting of internal IT process and business process)

Information Solutions manages the architecture to support all business within the Briggs & Stratton Corporation, including alignment and development of technology standards. This area is also responsible for data management (Oracle and SQL) and SAP security and Basis support. In addition this area support operational reporting and decision support analysis using SAS programs. And this group supports the HR, Payroll, and Finance areas.
