What does it look like?
This two-bit mold-affect appears in circular patches, 1-5 inches in diameter. Symptoms include a water-soaked appearance, followed by a straw-colored grass. Hourglass shape lesions also appear on the grass blades, and white threads of mold can be visible in the morning.
When is a lawn susceptible?
Almost any lawn can pick up dollar spot, especially during warm days and cool nights of the spring and fall. Lawns that are thatchy, wet, and low in nitrogen are most susceptible. A low-mowed lawn can reveal more apparent dollar spot symptoms.
How can we get rid of it?
Fertilize your lawn with nitrogen to grow the turf out of this disease, and keep it irrigated to minimize moisture stress. Controlling thatch levels also is important. Fungicide applications will stop and even prevent this disease from occurring, but home lawn care seldom requires this step so long as proper fertilizer practices are in place.
