Top Five "Must Have" Tools For Your New Yard

Your first home with a yard means taking on some yard care tasks to keep everything looking great. When it comes to yard care, it helps to have the right tools and equipment. Here are the top five items you should have in your garage right from the start.

Purchase the best quality you can afford. Do your research before you go shopping for big ticket items and ask questions. If you buy quality to begin with and take care of your equipment, it will last for years of use.

  1. Rakes, shovel, shears in garageRakes and shovels. You should have two rakes - a fan rake (shaped like its name implies) for raking leaves. Metal or sturdy plastic work well. You also need a metal-tine rake for helping you prepare soil before seeding or laying sod and also to smooth out garden beds.






  2. Garden HoseGarden hose. A rubber garden hose won't crimp or tangle. Also look for brass fittings, which will last longer than plastic. If your budget permits, get a hose for the front yard and a second for the back to make caring for your yard easier.

     

     

     

  3. Broadcast SpreaderFertilizer spreader. There are two types: Rotary (also called a broadcast spreader) and a drop spreader.   4. String trimmer on lawnString trimmer. Can't live without this. Cutting the lawn without trimming is like getting half a haircut. Take your time choosing a string trimmer.
