At Ease!
After an October weekend trip to Boston, 12 lucky Yard Smarts Boot Camp recruits (drafted due to their yard woes) returned home victorious – and ready and willing to take on their own landscape challenges.
During the two-day Boot Camp, “Drill Sergeant” Trey Rogers, Ph.D. and Briggs & Stratton Yard Doctor, along with Garden Expert Susan Gruber, gave the group a really-not-so-tough lesson on the essential duties of yard care. Starting from the beginning with tuning up a lawn mower, the recruits marched on through cultivating, seeding and fertilizing the lawn at a private home for some hands-on learning. They also heard the straight talk on important lawn and garden care issues, including how to avoid common landscape maintenance mistakes. And for some extra motivation, recruits were led on a tour of the amazing Public Gardens in Boston.
Armed with the right skills, knowledge and loads of inspiration, the Yard Smarts Boot Camp recruits gained new confidence (not to mention a $200 Sears gift card, plus a new lawn mower and pressure washer) to get their outdoor spaces in tiptop shape. Reports one recruit, “It’s amazing I learned a lifetime of yard care tips in just a few short days. My yard and I will be meeting regularly for watering, fertilizing and, most importantly, mowing dates.” All this, without having to do a single pushup.
